Minions

Minioning is the creation of a forum relationship that ranges between that of: a master to his servant, a mentor to his apprentice, a supervillain to his henchman, or a CEO to his child labourer. Creating a master/minion relationship looks simple on the surface; a user with experience and status claims a subordinate among the newer user base. However a claim alone rarely works over the long term, which is why overzealous minion requests rarely works out; a prime example can be found in furryjonny's ill-fated and short-lived Minion Pyramid Scheme.

Minions themselves vary in quality and have differing duties depending on the master's philosophy; most users with minions have only one. Shinku-san's primary minion, Chocolate Ninja, is primarily used to protect Shinku-san; in particular, to protect him from Chocolate Ninja. Others do not have this luxury. El Bandito's minion panheadgirl's primary use is something none of us really want to think about. Other minion relationships are less noteworthy due to either their short duration, or because the minions aren't aware of their status.

Although it may seem like certain users are taking advantage of new users' lack of status and possible naïveté on the forum for their own nefarious ends and egos - which it most certainly is - it's also to indicate a certain amount of acceptance for that new user.
