In the year 2000, Special Agent 012 of the Shinku-san Royal Crown Library Hugo Widdershins was nearly killed in an explosion during a pitched battle to protect the vast stores of The Shinku-san Corporation's knowledge from the Canadian secret agency known as D.E.G.R.A.S.S.I. (see DEGRASSI) The explosion claimed the lives of approximately twenty other people, including other Royal Crown Library agents and D.E.G.R.A.S.S.I. operatives. Widdershins, the only survivor was intensly burned from head to toe with no functioning organs or member save for his brain and most vital organs.

The loss of yet another agent was unacceptable to The Shinku-san Corporation, and every effort was made to restore Agent 012. No solution could be found however to keep the agent's vast knowledge of martial arts, weaponry, and scone baking, until the blue-haired corpse of a 14 year old Japanese girl washed up on the beach of one of Shinku-san's many outsourcing factory plants in Iceland. In a delicate process, Agent 012's brain and organs were placed into the freshly-excavated girl's body and brought back to life using spirits of ammonia.

The knowledge of the revived Shinku-san agent known only as "Twelfth" has been kept a secret and all world organizations officially recognize Twelfth as having died in the explosion. Twelfth herself retains no memory of the event that nearly claimed her life, even less so the preposterous notion that she is a middle-aged British man whose brain and heart were stuffed into a small girl with blue hair and a low-cut school uniform. In the years since the surgery, Twelfth has remained in a top position amongst Shinku-san's special agents, called upon only when utmost secrecy is required and the fate of factors even greater than Shinku-san Royal Crown Library is at stake. In her off days, Twelfth is something of an amateur author, and enjoys strong tea, Footballer's Wives, and the Dune series.

The extent of Twelfth's skills since her resurgence in undetermined. It is presumed that she retained all the skills she had prior to the event, and some have speculated that her skills in her new body exceed her previous talents, ranging into powers of super-strength, and energy transmission. All that is known for certain is that Twelfth has the strength and stamina of an average, physically-fit, 14-year old girl.

Any rumors involving Kitten Champion and El Bandito having huge mega-crushes on Twelfth are wholly unfounded, and speculative at best.
